Mangariva Avenue

"Great street in a great community"

This street is very close to bus stops and shops,
Tregear shops at one end,
Emerton shops at the other.
Emerton shops also have a 24/7 gym opening very soon near the service station and shops just up from the leisure centre which houses a number of indoor sports as well as an indoor pool that is a stone throw from local sporting fields and school.
At the tregear end there is a small community shopping centre just near the local school.
Also the local catholic church,pre-school,and school along with 1 of a couple of child care centres can be found within 5 minutes walk from either end of Mangariva Avenue.
Otherwise you can just jump on the bus for a five minute trip to either Mount Druitt westfield or train station or to Plumpton market place,
or for a great dining experience you could go further up to the famous alroy tavern,
famous for both it's food and drink as well as it's rich history.

Great for

  • Close to shops, fast food restaurants
  • Close to public transport, sporting fields and gyms
  • Close to schools ,preschools

Newcastle

"Newcastle once a thriving city, now a dead end slum"

Newcastle is the result of an over greedy council from about 15-20 years ago who even now have no direction for the town or it's people.
Newcastle is about one and a half hours north of Sydney by car ( 3 hours by train ) it has some of the best beaches in the state and not much else.
Newcastle does have a lot of potential which has been let slide by over greedy councils and even greedier developers who saw a quick buck to be made on wharf space and closed and ripped down a once busy hospital.
when the property market boom hit people from outside of Newcastle found what they thought was a good investment in property outside of Sydney,
What they got however is much further from the truth.
House prices in 2004 - 2007 were well over priced and investors would be just starting to see some small growth if any from what they paid.
If you just want to retire near the water Newcastle would be a fair destination as long as you dont need to be too close to medical care.
In short has some real potential,
a shame to see so many buildings in the cbd decaying and boarded up,
If council can stop their infighting and start thinking of whats best for Newcastle and less about whats best for themselves it could be the once great town it was again.

Great for

  • Beaches

Not great for

  • Well overpriced property for what you get
  • Extremely dangerous after dark
  • Overall decay of a once thriving cbd

Have to agree with this comment!! Local people who don't look very far (live within the walls) don't compare what or why they are paying mid $300's for a 3 bedroom weatherboard cottage maybe with a little work done to it in some western areas where in other regions it will buy a 3 bedroom newer brick home, or why estates out in the western areas are bringing around the $500's - $600's for a newer style large home where in other regions you would be able to buy similiar but very close to the coastal suburbs for this price. Alot of locals are strangely proud they are paying through the nose as they believe they are standing up for their town. Ask for a $1 off the price you will get your head bitten off with the everyone owes me attitude.

Newcastle is NSW's best kept secret! The city is being revitalised. Newcastle University's new campus in Hunter Street will bring 4000 students and 400 staff, the new court house, high density modern building replacing unused and old decaying commercial property. If you want to invest in the future, do it in Newcastle!

I agree with 2770. The place is run down and decrepit. A shame.

Mount Druitt

"A silent success story, plagued by a past reputation that still continues to stick today"

Mount druitt is one of the safest, friendliest suburbs in Sydney,
yes we do have crime like anywhere else but our crime rate is low compared to many other suburbs in New South Wales thanks to the pro-active policing done by what could be described as the best police in the country to turn a suburb which was described once as a " no go zone " to what it is today.
As with anything a bad reputation sticks like mud and Mount Druitt is a great testamont to this.
I wont go in to detail but some of the reviews on the area on here are comical at best from either the unluckiest people in the world or people who simply have not been to the area and are just trying to fuel it's previous bad reputation along.
Most people who live in the area are blue collar workers, along with some white collar workers as well.
A lot of young families have moved here due to cheaper house prices due to the misconseption of the area and have taken up sensibly priced mortgages for the first home owner.

To sum up Mount Druitt honestly,
fair priced houses in a friendly community within about 30 mins from the city and beaches by car ( about 60 by train ) ,a huge assortment of public and catholic schools, excellent reliable public transport, almost unlimited shopping centres both large and small, fast food restaurants, above average law and order, well above average medical and dental, close to Blue Mountains, eastern creek raceway, proposed wet and wild water world, and many other attractions, close to the M7 and M4 motorways, there's simply not much more you can ask from a suburb.

Great for

  • Law and order
  • Community spirit, public transport
  • Shopping,Schools,Child care and medical

Not great for

  • Still tainted by bad reputation from years ago
  • Police station outdated and too small

Past reputation? The place is still and always will be a piece of steaming garbage. You only live here if you have too. No-one would ever knowingly choose to live here if they could afford anywhere better. This is the end of the food chain society wise. Australia's closest thing to the Bronx.

Lethbridge Park

"A great place for couples ,young families and retirees, great for students as well"

Lethbridge park is the perfect place to own your own home,
especially for first home owners or young families,
Every house is close to a bus stop,
Mount Druitt westfield shopping centre,Plumpton market place, other countless smaller community shopping centres, schools,Tafe, government services, banks,Train stations,Library, parks, police,Hospitals, clubs,The biggest AMF bowling centre in Australia,Blacktown olympic park ,cinemas, and not to mention drive in cinema, markets, are all easily accessable by both car and public transport from Lethbridge Park.
Only about 30 mins. from the city and beaches by car ( about 60 by train )
and the same from the world famous blue mountains.
The best location in Sydney where you can still own a house with a good size backyard for that game of cricket or growing that vegetable garden near your inground pool.
Overall perfect to live but a good reverse cycle air conditioner is a must have,
but in saying that you will find most if not all houses are well equipped to deal with the climate.

Great for

  • Close to shopping centres, schools, public transport
  • community only too happy to help out if they can
  • A stone throw from anything to see or do

Not great for

  • Slightly cooler temperature in winter
  • Slightly higher temperature in summer
