Melton West

"Good straight run to the city via the freeway but so so far away and dry and flat and featureless with no views"

There is a real cost in time and money to have to live so far from the city. However there should be some benefit in terms of really nice and fresh air, larger block sizes and far cheaper land. Also it should be pleasant to the eye with hills and trees. Otherwise why bother. Melton West is just not nice enough to make it worth living so far from the city.

Not great for

  • Near melton south
  • High Crime
  • High Vandalism
  • Too far from the city

Doreen

"Very very nice suburb that is remarkable for its natural beauty, tranquility and the quality of its people"

We live in Laurimar and cannot say enough nice things about it. It has very nice people. It is nicely laid out with beautiful parks and reserves. Its now got a very nice shopping centre. We used to live in Mill Park and used to hear hoons doing burnouts every night. In Doreen you get nothing like that. It is also very convenient with good access to shopping centres. Northland is 24 minutes away, Westfield in South Morang and Greensborough Plaza are 11 and 14 minutes away. There is expected to be a train station build in Mernda eventually on the corner of Plenty and Bridge Inn Roads as well as the Outer Ring Road built by the end of the decade will bring freeway access as close as Bridge Inn Rd (5 minutes drive). Great feel great future great place.

Great for

  • Will soon have a train, yippee
  • Lots of school options
  • Quiet and fresh air
  • Great mix of young and old that are community spirited
  • The existing and planned infrastructure is terrific and eliminates the need to go too far
  • Urban development with a distinct country feel
  • Lovely recreation areas
  • Good access to parks

Highgate Retreat

"Probably the best laid out court I have seen anywhere"

This is not a traditional court. Firstly the road does a kind of Y. So it has plenty of parking. Also it has parkland between the houses. It would be fantastic for kids who can play in the parkland between the houses. This court has a very nice river red gumtree that is lit at night. The whole court makes me really wish I could live here

Craigieburn

"Craigieburn was a very happening place. But it is growing too fast and not enough integration is happening"

Craigieburn had real character. It has great sports facilities and very nice people. But there has been a new influx of people from other suburbs and other parts of the world and it has become very hectic and busy.

Craigieburn is an easy 25 minutes to the city and has great transport options including the train and buses.

Craigieburn already has some very nice shops and lovely restaurants and takeaways.

We love Craigieburn and had three properties there but we are on the way out and will move soon.

Am very sad to leave but it just does not feel like home any more.

Hopefully the council will recognise that they have dropped the ball and will try to make it what it can be.
