"Loving Ipswich - was totally suprised!"

After living in Brisbane all my life, we bought in Eastern Heights a year ago and have absolutely loved it. Ipswich has a great community feel (people take the time to get to know you), beautiful old qld'er homes currently valued at significantly less than other outer Brisbane suburbs, and an emerging caf/restaurant culture. Most underrated area in South East Qld. We now rent out our Eastern Heights house (with great rental return) and have bought a property on Denmark Hill as the forever home. If you're planning to move out here, do a little research on the suburbs expecting strong capital growth, they tend to be the ones with established old Queenslander homes and lots of renovations happening. My picks are: Newtown, Eastern Heights, Sadliers Crossing, Wood End, Denmark Hill and if you're looking for a little cheaper - East Ipswich, Booval and Bundamba (just check the flood maps on the lower suburbs).

Great for

  • Friendly
  • Great Queenslander Homes
  • Cost of living
  • Quiet
  • Food

Not great for

  • Poor night life
  • Some poor planning
  • Hot in summer

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles
  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • Students

I am looking at moving to the Ipswich area later this year, there are some good, and some really bad reviews, its a bit of a concern as Im moving states, so havent had a chance to look around much, can you tell me what areas you think are the best, Im middle age with no young children, and which areas to avoid, would really appreciate any advice.
Thanks, Sue

Do you know what Churchill is like

sue believe the bad reviews. The place is full of crime. Just check out QLD crime stats. Ipswich is the highest in the state. If you want a nice area, try the St Lucia, Indooroopilly, Toowong. Lovely walks around the Uni, and safe.

Anywhere close to the University of Qld - St Lucia, Taringa, Indooroopilly, Toowong, Dutton Park, Fairfield. Rentals are in demand due to international students and casual academic staff. Beautiful place to live, but much pricier to buy into than Ipswich.

Good luck anyone buying in Western Suburbs as prices are insane. Not everyone can afford this area and have to look at alternatives such as Ipswich.

Ipswich is good. We just moved here . eastern heights and new town , silkstone are very nice. Good local shops and close to queens park and zoo, check out the children library is super. These heritage type of Queenslander house are very nice. Good for family and retirement. The place is not so safe is the trans link station in central Ipswich. Its like all town or sub , These big bus or train station is not that safe . Leichhard is changing with new estates. But check the flood map before buying house. However these flood zone house is very cheap. If no flood in the next ten or more years then its ok to buy . I guess the local government is trying to improve and protect house in these area as you can see lots of construction is going on .

There are about 40+ subs in Ipswich. Really need to know the area. Springfield is one of the good area which is a sub of Ipswich too. Its 20 mins from Ipswich centre and Eastern heights, Newtown , silkstone, raceview are all good suburbs which are very close to queens park .

Is that goodna? If people use a few bad areas to say the whole area is not good, then probably should live in Mars .

We moved to north ipswich a year ago from near Sydney. We love it. Its a great area, close to everything, shops, freeway, train station, nice maintained houses mostly, good schools. The houses are a huge percentage of home owner occupied. Ipswich has come a long way even in the year we have been here. Theres so much to do and the council are really putting money into making it nicer. I dont think theres many old ipswichers left. Most have been forced to move out laidly ect due to prices of houses.
