Doreen is a great place. It is a housing estate though so you do get the odd party and dog barking but that's the same for most places unless you're on acreage. Laurimar school is supposed to be good and ours are a Yarrambat school which is excellent. We've lived here for 2 years and can't find fault with it. The traffic down the yan yean road is bad during the morning rush hour though but traffic in Doreen itself is okay.The parks are great and the Yan Yean resevoir near by is good for a quick walk.
