George Town

"Moved here 3 years ago. People called us crazy. Best decision we ever made."

Our family moved here 3 years ago. We had only been to Tassie on Holidays. When we told people in Tasmania we were moving to George Town they called us crazy. But as mainlanders, this place was everything we could ever dream of. Ocean views, hospitals, shops, schools, parks, beaches, jobs, sports clubs etc. And only 35 minutes to Launceston for anything that wasn't local. You spend double that in traffic in Melbourne just getting to work. Our 3 kids are all under 6. The school for our oldest is wonderful. The local facilities for the toddlers and babies (The hub) is a gem. My local doctor and pharmacist know me by name and are always good for a chat.

The history of the place is also incredible. So much colonial history we love to show our family when they visit. We bought an old housing commission house and renovated. It was $129k to buy. It's now valued at close to $200k. We're hanging onto it while we build our new home, also here in George Town. Demand is also increasing, with homes selling pretty quick, and rentals lasting what seems like minutes.

For the future of George Town things have never looked brighter. So much development happening in Bell Bay with the prospect of thousands of Jobs there. The main street is slowly refurbishing. Business's and shops are opening. There's new houses popping up all over the place.

All in all, we're so glad we moved here when we did. I think there's probably a small window to still move here, because in about 5 years I reckon this will be the premier lifestyle destination to live in North Tasmania, if not all Tasmania. I've fond the folks who belittle are usually locals who left, Tasmanian's who've never been here, or those who haven't been here for 20 years. The community spirit is strong, and it's future is bright.
