Mawson Lakes

"Mawson Lakes - a pleasant area for living"

I have lived in Mawson Lakes for 5 years now and I can tell you that it is a very pleasant area to live in. I don't understand how other reviews seem eager to put a very negative light to this area. I'm not saying this is a perfect place, but Mawson Lakes is one of the few suburbs that has a really nice and safe appeal to me. Some people even see this area as a posh place to live in considering the high values of properties here.

Pros:
Park - There are some mini parks and trails around the area but the most prominent is the Promenade. It's a nice place for dining, jogging and strolling. I love walking here early morning. It's close to restaurants and shops and the atmosphere is super relaxing.

Neighborhood- It's a peaceful and quiet neighborhood. Most houses here has a decent and homely appearance. A lot of locals seems to be professionals / international students / decent migrants

Transportation- There's the Mawson Interchange station and just nearby is a wide free public car park which is very convenient to those who wants to transfer the train and leave their car behind. The train always stops in this station. There's also the expressway.

Environment- The place is clean and green, quiet and safe.

Cons:

- I don't know if it's only here in Mawson Lakes but it's not uncommon to find random insects entering our house. Maybe because the area is surrounded by parks, I sometimes see dead/alive grasshoppers, spiders, millipedes, mosquitos etc. at our doorside. They're not plenty to be considered a real pest but it can be a source of annoyance for some.

- Some areas in Mawson Lakes (especially the newer part) is still not NBN approved which means you can't have ADSL2+ only the ADSL1. So if you're going to rent a place here and if you want a hi-speed wifi, you better check your chosen address first.

- It's pretty much a ghost town at 9 pm. No nightlife.

- Cost of living is pretty steep. Expensive properties, average rent just for a one bedroom unit is like 280 plus aud already. Expect to pay more if you want to rent a house.
