Mount Riverview

"Quiet, nice to live in-need a car though"

School in this area are very community minded. Most residents know each other or know of each other. I found this to be a double edged sword. Growing up as a teen in this area was fine and it was much more sheltered than the main township of Penrith.
As a parent, I found this area to be a bit behind in terms of cultural diversity and the social groups to be very judgemental, opinionated and snobbish.
It is very quiet, going for walks is a highlight and to be fair the area is very pretty so its not hard to enjoy.
Mount riverview itself doesnt have any nightlife unless you are part of a church group but its a 15 minute drive to Penrith that has all popular eateries and restaurants, shopping etc.
Mobile reception is and I think will always be difficult but that is because Mount riv is on a ridge.

Mount Druitt

"Really good for first home buyers, young families, suburb growing strong!"

Moved to OLd Mount Druitt 5 years ago and in the last three years has seen alot of changes all for the better. Many houses are being built and there are many knockdown rebuilds because of low property prices.

Area is now predominantly young families and older residents. Most own or privately rent. Rent and home prices are growing as developments and new apartments are going in. Train station was refurbished and transport is easily accesible and safe.

All mod cons, mobile, internet etc have excellent coverage.
There is alot of disposable income in this area and local Westfield is a bit of a Mecca for low prices and great deals.
Our neighbours are very friendly, one was a groomsman in our wedding!! Have had very good experiences with local people, friendly and there is no snobbery at all.
Schools in this area are very good. Colyton PS which is in Old Mount Druitt was built in 1800's and is very well reputed. High schools in this area do well academically but are seen as a bit rough still as they accept from neighbouring areas that are problematic.
Old Mount Druitt is definitely the area that you would choose property in, the suburb Mount Druitt holds many sub-suburbs like Shalvey, Bidwell, Lethbridge Park that I would not recommend living in. The train lines separates the housing that is private to many government housing and old apartment complexes.

I do agree with a lot of what you say but take offence to your comments about surrounding suburbs,
I live in the home I have purchased in Lethbridge Park ( the southern end ) and we have great neighbours and have found it to be a great community to live in compared to many other suburbs,
We have a couple of great schools, great public transport if we need it and have found everybody to be helpful.
Apart from that I agree with you.

Lethbridge Park home owner/resident for over 6yrs, never use our house alarm. Never had a problem anywhere. Employment is abundant via Minchinbury/Erskine Park/Walgrove rd/Dunheved industrial estates. Life is good here, neighbours are better than family, homes & gardens are neat & tidy. Every home has a minimum of two vehicles & every second a boat aswell........maybe Im from the only good street. People in "Old Mount Druitt" do look down on people over the tracks "sub suburbs" Whalan/Lethbridge Park/Shalvey etc, as do Minchinbury people over the highway look down on Old Mount Druitt.................Dont judge anywhere until you live there, home is where the heart is & what you make of it.........Campbelltown area cops the same abuse & stigma, but is a nice place to live aswell. Unruly tenants, is a realestate screening/monitoring failure not a whole suburb's. Theres been shootings in well heeled Greystanes/Guildford etc......maybe they went from a sub suburb in Mount Druitt & Campbelltown to shoot each other there............jeezus. I got asked for 2 or 3 dollars by a fella @ gladesville the other day.........different classes everywhere, even in upper class "old Mount Druitt" near the squash courts old matey. Real classy there.......

To both 2770 and TrumpyJeff, I am happy to retract my statement of Lethbridge Park :) It has, like most suburbs..good and bad streets and I have met some really lovely, house-proud, respectable people that live there.
TrumpyJeff, while I appreciate your thoughts and pride in your life and values, to constantly comment and defend every statement ( and some points that weren't actually mentioned!!) does seem to come across as both unnecessary and is in fact more detrimental to your stance than if you clicked the helpful button instead. Every suburb has good and bad points but to react so strongly to the negative comments just makes those that criticise Mount Druitt more convinced they are correct.
Having said all that, I am still living in Mount Druitt...have all my teeth, my children are well-mannered and respectful, both my husband and myself work and neither of us have been robbed or stolen anything :)

cmatt, great to hear,
Shalvey & Bidwill cop it more than Lethbridge Park & have their ugly sides & nice streets aswell-

my brother lives in Eaglevale with his wife & two children, owns his home-,
both he & his partner work.
He actually works in the mines in Western Australia, 4 weeks on & 1 off & earns more than some can imagine. His suburb gets battered via the uninformed aswell.............same deal as myself in Lethbridge Park- lovely street, awesome neighbours, schools etc............

Someone has to defend the defenceless......all negative hype does, is elevate the messenger.

The police station & hospital are set to be upgraded & with the recent addition of a courthouse, Mount Druitt is becoming a "city", equal to Blacktown & eventually will rival Penrith.

I remember as a child 7yrs, going to Mount Druitt Town Hall to see movies (next to recently refurbished Old Mt Druitt Pub).
We walked from Hebersham & you had to set your chairs up before the film.(a car in those days was a luxury, yes my parents worked & were proud owners of a new "landcom" single brick house in Hebersham.), I remember a double feature of Star Wars/You Cant Stop The Music(Village People)........There's a hoyts @ westfields with 3 or 4 cinemas thesedays.
So "the Druitt" went from Rural, to Landcom, to Housing Department, to now............very busy & thriving. Full of dole bludgers??? Try & find parking @ westfields.......!!
Dole bludgers rarely own a vehicle $$$$$$$ & wouldnt have much to spend @ westfields.
I suppose everyone needs someone beneath them or they eventually "kick the dog" to raise their self worth/esteem........
Kind regards Jeff

Moved to Lethbridge Park from Cabramatta in 1969. I was 8 years old, parents not yet 30. Most of the houses in the street were still being built when we moved in. Place smelt like fresh cut timber, and the most popular tool was the rotary hoe. No footpaths, just mud. Bowman's bus service for our neck of the woods, Rowe's went round Whalan into Mt Druitt. Shalvey High was a swimming hole, no Wilmot, no Bidwill, no Hebersham, no Emerton. Rode the pushie down Jersey Road out to Plumpton, mostly bush. No Cedars Tavern back then.

The less possessed, the more giving's esteemed. If you weren't there you can't judge, but you can stereotype. Every suburb has its salt of the earth and its deadbeats. I can assure you the salt of the earth in Mt Druitt will be of the very same generation accused of creating it's 'celebrated past'!
