Ipswich

"Consider it outer suburban Brisbane and you're set"

Come from Melbourne or Sydney where the outer suburbs are 1hr out from the city centre, and Ipswich quickly makes sense as an outer suburban area to Brisbane. Housing at half the price of the closer suburbs, and anywhere from 20 to 45mins from Brisbane City, 1hr to Gold Coast theme parks and just over an hour to Gold Coast beaches.

As a place to live, it's got all the necessities, and the food and entertainment culture is building. It's hard to say if food and entertainment will ever kick off in the centre of Ipswich, but a 30min drive or 45min train to Brisbane City makes it irrelevant.

Plenty of manufacturing and agriculture support works support employment in the area, however there is significant room to improve in the manufacturing space, with Swanbank a particular region of interest for growth.

The locals are family friendly and generally keep to themselves. There is an inherent resistance to multiculturalism, and I would describe Ipswich as "the whitest place in SEQ", but if you can get past that then it's a great place to be.

It is an area that springboards on its surrounds. Want a day trip drive up to Mount Glorious or Wivenhoe, you're there in a flash. Head up to Toowoomba for a day trip in an hour. Heading south through Warwick and you've got a head start.

With areas north of the Warrego having extremely affordable acreage without the traffic hassles of Mount Lindesay Highway, it's a great place for a treechange.

For suburban families looking for that extra few hundred square meters of land for a big shed and a pool, suburbs from Dinmore through Bundamba offer great value.

Whilst the mercury may be a few degrees hotter than its coastal counterparts, the humidity is reduced enough to make it comparably comfortable.

Overall, if you can deal with a bit of the bogan culture, Ipswich and it's eastern suburbs have everything you need to live comfortably on a budget. Maybe even affords you the luxury of that fancy holiday or weekend trips that you've wanted.
