Caringbah

"Housing Commission. Got a few problems. However some parts are very good"

Caringbah is one of the "rougher" areas of the Sutherland Shire imo. After living here for 8 years I can attest to this. It has more housing commission than other areas in the Shire. The housing commission units near the train station on Banksia road and some streets in Caringbah north are hotbeds for crime/antisocial behaviour/drugs/domestic violence etc. These areas are not that safe to walk at night, especially for females. The town centre hasn't changed much since the 70s and is starting to look a bit tacky. Its not uncommon to find beggars, a few 'roudy gronks or a bogan shouting at you on Caringbah station. The Coles/Coles alleyway is also a bit dodgy (its being revamped finally though), with questionable people often hanging around there. However, south Caringbah and the areas toward lilli pilli/miranda and woolooware are excellent areas. Good transport options from Caringbah station with trains available every 15 mins into the city. There are plenty of good schools in Caringbah and surrounds, parry's milk bar is excellent as is Highfields. Caringbah is fine, and I'm sure its a lot safer than some traditionally "rough areas" such as Bidwill/Tennant Ck etc, but you do have to be a bit cautious at night sometimes.

Wellington

"YUCK. A bit of a hole."

Ok, fairs fair, I haven't lived in Wellington personally. However, I've driven through the streets there and stopped multiple times. The town is a total dump from what I've seen. Much worse than dubbo, and dubbo has its fair share of problems. Apparently it has a very high crime rate, mainly due to youths who have nothing to do, fuelled by the towns lack of jobs. A nieghbour of mine has a mother he looks after in Wellington, and has said he hates the place lol. He said it is full of rude people, though there are some nice people in some shops there. Like many country touns you will never really be considered a "local" if you aren't born there, no matter how long you've lived there. I found the exact same thing when my family lived in Orange NSW, and Orange is a MUCH nicer town that wellington is. If you are thinking of moving here, first I'd say think again, but if you are 100% set on it, MAKE VERY SURE you have secure exmployment first.

How can you possibly comment on a town you have never lived in? Wow so you've driven through it - doesnt mean you have any idea of what it is like to live there. What a waste of space you are.

Agreed in full as been here two years and it's nothing but dramas. By far the worst town I've ever lived in.

Fairy Meadow

"Yuck"

Dodgy looking area. I get off at North Wollongong station to go to UOW and the amount of bogans and sketchy people that get on or off around fairy meadow speaks volumes about the suburb. From another review on here it states that its dangerous, not suprised cause many streets here look run down as anything. I suspect its full of housing commission. You have to be careful around fairy meadow at night.

Orange

"it MIGHT be a decent place to live......"

My family moved to orange NSW from sydney in 2011 and I spent two years there when I was younger. (17 now). As such, I know a thing or too about the place. First off if you are thinking of moving here and you hate the cold, don't even think about it. I personally loved the frosty weather, but it definitely is extremely cold if you come from a warmer climate. Coldest night was about -10c, and on many occasions friends at school would complain of pipes on the side of the house freezing lol. Using proper coolant is a must, as water will freeze solid in the radiator, also bring out the window ice scrapers. The wind also makes it feel way colder. Often the car would say it's -4 when the official temp was like 2. Anyway, we ultimately moved back to sydney as there is simply not many employment opportunities for many sectors in Orange. My dad was an electrician, and whilst he did work in the gold mine during the boom, once that boom wore off, unemployment occured. He worked multiple other jobs, all of which were low pay and long hours compared to Sydney. In country towns, it's who you know, not what you can do. We found that no matter how long you live there, unless you are born there, you will never really truly be a "local". All the good jobs are filled by locals who never leave them. However, if you work in healthcare or services (ie firefighters), then there is greater employment outlook. The new hospital at Bloomfield apparently has many vacancies. The mine has been slowing down and the Electrolux factory has all but disappeared, leaving many out of work. Be very careful to check security of employment before moving to a place like this. Being retired is the best option, as the town itself is beautiful. Cook park is awesome with the avairy, and there is adventure playground up in North orange for any young kids. Plenty of decent public and private schools. RSL had good food last time and there are plenty of shops, with a brand new Bunnings up in North orange. I would avoid the areas such as Bowen as they are the typically "lower class" areas with higher crime rates and drug use. Bogans around but that's everywhere. Newer parts of Clare, Bletchington and Poplars Estate are the best places IMO. Ultimately, we ended up moving back to sydney for my father's employment reasons, and looking back on it, it was the best decision we've made to date. Nevertheless, I enjoyed a different country lifestyle for a change.
