Port Macquarie

"Number 1 unwelcoming award"

Our family moved here 4 years ago from ‘the city.’ We loved the beaches and beautiful nature all around us.
The people, not so much. We have decided to move on, as we have never felt so unwelcome anywhere- and we have lived everywhere.... All of our family members have put in great efforts in school, sports and work to become involved members of this town. Yet, all 5 of us still feel very excludes and unwelcome, even after 4 years of trying. People around here are exclusive, unfriendly at best and impolite at worst, negative about almost everything. A walhalla of Karens. The biggest mistake of our life was moving here.

I know what you mean , beautiful area but its tough to crack it in as it very clicky but most people are superficial nice but that can be anywhere as well .

I have lived here for years after living in Sydney and Canberra, I agree that it's not a friendly place at all. No one smiles on the street, people are cold in general which is very strange for a large regional city. People are also very simple and narrow minded here. We love the scenic views and nature but this is not the place to live if you want to feel a sense of belonging, community and mental wellness. Both Sydney and Canberra, Sydney especially are far friendlier. We are also moving on.
