Mawson Lakes

"A beautiful place to live...and so much more!"

Have lived here with family for years, and we have enjoyed such a beautiful and friendly and welcoming community from day 1. With over 13,000 permanent residents, Technology Park, UniSA, Woolworths, Foodland, speciality shops, gyms, beautiful walk-ways, and cycle-ways adjacent an open lake and park system with shopping and amenities at your finger-tips, I'm very surprised to learn that the suburb rating is not top 10 for Adelaide. What is going on here!?

I've noticed many of the comments that are negative are clearly from people that have never lived here! Make of that what you will - it's either ignorance or jealousy. If you are considering moving here from interstate or overseas, I would suggest getting onto Realestate.com.au, Google Earth/Google Street View (if you're not an Adelaide local), and if you're an Adelaide local considering moving here, come and check it out in person! We're not hiding anything! Come and see! Cafe's, Restaurants, Gyms, Schools, Beautiful Homes, Beautiful Parks and Playgrounds, and a true community spirit within the neighbourhood. Residents here are always smiling and saying hello as they walk by your home, and your neighbours actually take the time to get to know you.

There's an airport nearby (light-aircraft only!) with the vast majority of aircraft movement related to training future pilots who come here from all over the world, taking the controls of their twin-props and studying aviation at the University of South Australia (Mawson Lakes Campus), and often rent in Mawson Lakes for the duration of their training! Excellent tenants! The evening flight curfew is 11pm, and 9pm on weekends. Regardless of that, inside the modern insulated homes here at Mawson Lakes you rarely hear a thing, and on the odd-occasion that you do, it's gone in moments, and you only heard it in the first place because of a rare occasion that you were sitting in complete silence within your home, which is surely hardly ever! Not once ever, have I, or any member of my family been awoken by aircraft noise. Residents adjacent Adelaide International Airport could not make the same claim being buzzed by 747's!

Other complaints relate to small lot size. I don't even understand that as a complaint. If you don't want a small lot, then don't purchase a small lot! Anyway, there's a mix of lot sizes here ranging from small courtyard styles to much larger traditional lots with good sized backyards, on 700sqm+. It's the suburbs after all. If you want a large lot they are available, however if you're seeking a very large lot or acreage, then the Adelaide Metropolitan area is not for you. I would suggest a rural or hills location. We love the quiet sanctuary of our beautiful courtyard and chose the smaller size on purpose, as it is almost zero maintenance, meaning more time for family, friends and other activities. Regardless, there's plenty of room for family bbq's etc, and parks and playgrounds for the kids are merely minutes walk from the majority of homes anyway, so no issues there. Plenty of room to play and run around.

Get your checklist out, and Mawson Lakes will tick all the boxes. Less than 20 minutes by car to the city, less than 20 minutes to several beautiful beaches, and approx 45 minutes to the Barossa Valley! Incredible. Anyone living in Australia's eastern states will understand how absolutely incredible that is for the prices you currently pay here! Considering the industry that is arriving in Adelaide in the near future (ship building etc), and the thousands of jobs that will bring to the state, much of it within 20 minutes of Mawson Lakes (at Port Adelaide etc), start doing the maths and get in early to this suburb before it's in full swing!

Some Adelaide locals seem to have an ingrained perception of the northern suburbs. Mawson Lakes is many kilometres geographically closer to North Adelaide (North Adelaide is adjacent the Adelaide CBD), than it is to Elizabeth (one of the northern suburbs Adelaide's more snobbish residents often refer to and sneer at). Check out Google Maps and you'll see. Mawson Lakes to North Adelaide (approx 11.6kms) v's Mawson Lakes to Elizabeth (approx 16kms). I'll repeat, Mawson Lakes is geographically closer by a significant margin to North Adelaide than it is to Elizabeth, so I'm not sure what these Adelaide locals reviewing on here are on about when they start linking Mawson Lakes to this prejudice they have with the so-called northern suburbs, as Mawson Lakes is even closer to Adelaide itself for goodness sake! Sure, if you stand in Central Adelaide with a compass, Mawson Lakes faces North. As does North Adelaide, Fitzroy, Medindie, Collinswood, Nailsworth and so on. See what I mean? All very expensive suburbs - geographically North!

I would urge you to start looking beyond many of the negative comments on here, some of them completely absurd, clearly not written by northern suburbs locals and therefore frequently superficial and interlaced with examples and statements based on their own narrow-minded prejudice rather than fact. Make your own judgement, and trust your own decisions. It is a truly tremendous place to live, and we have no regrets choosing to live here, indeed we feel privileged and very lucky to be a part of this community. If we ever move, it'll be to another home here! If you made it to the end of this way too long review, thanks for taking the time to consider this beautiful and safe community in a fantastically convenient location to all that Adelaide has to offer.

If you are referring to my comment is being completely outrageous, under no circumstances did I say for once that Mawson Lakes is a bad area. I only stated that it can SOMETIMES be a bit rough with the crime that does go on around here, but its not very frequent compared to the other northern suburbs, no way. And yeah I have to agree with you, Mawson Lakes should be up there in the top 20s at least. At least!

It is a beautiful area. It just completely takes you to another world, far away from the northern suburbs but still in the northern suburbs, if youd ask me. I, myself, live inner north (north of Regency Road). Labelling myself and others as snobs is immature and ridiculous. I dont feel hurt by that but it was unnecessary.

In conclusion, Im sure you are extremely happy at Mawson Lakes, and thats how most people would love to talk about their area, even the ones who live in the bad areas. And no, Im not ingrained about a stereotypical perspective of the northern suburbs because Ive worked around these areas many times and I hate it. Its worse than the south in my opinion. And thats just the truth! Theres no need to get offended with things we say because you live in a particular suburb that is getting honestly talked about. But then again, I appreciate your honesty because of your experience.
