Auburn

"OK"

I know Auburn well. My grandparents lived here for over 50 years, I now work here. It has changed a lot over the years. Anywhere north of the train line towards Parramatta Rd is pretty yuk (looking at you Station Rd!). Think rubbish strewn around, and a general air that no-one really gives a s.... Auburn was really let down by the council of the Day who allowed ill-planned developments (one was a known fire trap) that now look like ghettoes. Auburn city centre has a buzz to it, but like others have said, many drivers are totally arrogant and inconsiderate. It's also quite dirty and overcrowded - parking is atrocious. Police station is round the corner but you don't see many walking the beat.

Having said that though, if you stay south of the train line, closer to Berala, and do your shopping elsewhere, there's not much bad stuff to say. There are really lovely Botanic gardens and a walking track along Duck Creek, playing fields, cricket club, tennis courts and club, newly renovated swimming centre in this southern part of Auburn. Auburn hospital was completely rebuilt a few years back and is great, its affiliated with Westmead.
Overall I give it 3 stars.
