Liverpool

"South western hub"

Have lived here for a couple of years, and like any major suburb in Sydney it has its good & bad sides. If you're looking to rent, there is a a large selection of units in the area. As others have mentioned, avoid Speed Street. A number of reasons why: the street parking is shocking, the units are quite old, & quite a few first floor units have bars on the windows (never a good sign). However units in this street are the cheapest in the area. Nagle Street is another one that looks overcrowded & dodgy. I'm in Riverpark Drive, which is quite a nice, friendly area. The Meriton built unit blocks here are generally 2 bedders & a decent size with resident access to indoor pool/spa and tennis courts. There is a little convenience store & a park/playground at the end of the street bordering the Georges River. Added bonus is its reasonably quiet, and only 10 min walk to the local public school & the Liverpool CBD.
It's a highly multicultural area & most people live harmoniously side by side. Middle Eastern, Indian, Asian & African make up the predominate population. This also means there is a great choice of international food & shopping in the area. The biggest concern would be those residents with alcohol & drug problems, which are apparent around places such as the mall at Liverpool Plaza, the railway station & the pubs. As others have suggested walking around Liverpool at night may be dangerous but hey, what part of Sydney isn't?
Medical facilities are plentiful & there is the local hospital available.
Parking! Oooh, it's a shocker here! Most of it metered & despite the many carparks/street parking it's often competitive to get a spot.
It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm happy here.

Great for

  • Close to hospital, schools
  • Close to shopping
  • Close to transport
  • Close to M5 & M7
  • Cheap to rent

Not great for

  • Unsafe at night time

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
