Mawson Lakes

"Could have been done better....."

I smell a few real estate agents providing too many five star ratings. I have lived in a house and apartment at Mawson Lakes. In terms of recreation, parks, gyms, medical facilities, childcare, public transport and schools, the facilities are excellent. With this in mind, it sounds great for singles, couples and families. I am single but wouldn't raise a family here due to the claustrophobic feel with the neighbouring residences and the small backyards. Yes, there are plenty of parks, but kids need outdoor recreation without parent supervision.

You get what you pay for with internet access and wireless is really the only option for the newer developments. There is a significant lack of shopping with the population outgrowing the current facilities, but the recent stage two approval will see more shopping provided in 18 long months. The express checkout lanes at Woolworths after work get very, very long and should be avoided. If you like getting your haircut there are about six hairdressers but if you like a drink there is only one pub, well, it's a small room within the Mawson Lakes hotel that is favoured by the tradies after work and seems to attract all the undesirables. If you’re looking for a great meal you won't find it in Mawson Lakes, if you’re looking for a quite meal and a wine you won't find it at Mawson Lakes, but if you’re a family looking to go out for a meal then you'll be somewhat spoilt for choice. In summary, nightlife for singles and couples is really non-existent which is surprising due to the large university population.

Someone indicated it is pest free. They sometimes call Mawson Lakes, Mossy Lakes and there is a good reason for that, but only during the summer months. If you’re looking to buy a house or apartment, have a good look over the construction and finish. A lot of the houses/apartments were built on the cheap by developers making a quick dollar. Property is relatively expensive so buyers beware.

Overall, the suburb provides all the facilities for families without the backyard and all the recreation for singles/couples without the nightlife. Hope this provides a more accurate and objective view.

P.S. The main lake is starting to collapse and some sections have been closed off for over 12 months so take caution if buying property close to this area.

How do you know this? See, you're one of the people making up stories so people don't live here!!

spacetrumpet, I'm sure the developers of Mawson, which so happen to have been the creators of West Lakes and Golden Grove, would successfully plan out and construct a beautiful neighbourhood with nothing but positive, better than you could ever try to create your "ideal" neighbourhood since you think Mawson Lakes "Could have been done better...". Totally useless review.
