Sunshine

"Sunshine- About to rise"

Sunshine is a western suburb that has a huge amount of potential, it has infrastructure being added and it looks to be a suburb that will become a gateway for the majority of main points across victoria. It is having roads and public transport added to ensure easy access to the airport and CBD, with it being only 15 minutes currently to the CBD and with the new train potentially only 15 minutes to the airport. It is also only 11kn out of the CBD so it makes it incredibly easy to get in and out of the city, and an affordable option for those wanting close living without paying an exorbitant amount. If more money is put in to cleaning up the council areas and local hangouts, it could have a rapid change quickly.

Great for

  • Transport
  • People
  • Close to the City
  • Many Attractive Period Homes and Public Buildings

Not great for

  • Needs more restaurants
  • Not enough nightlife

South Yarra

"South Yarra- A great centralised suburb with everything to offer"

South Yarra is a great suburb that is perfectly situated just out of the CBD. In a way it offers the neighbourhood environment that outer suburbs do, but it also allows you to be in a great proximity to things going on and central to whatever you need. With public transport in abundance with train stations and trams servicing all areas it is easy to get to. Driving around here can be a challenge though so it is to be avoided. There are great parks, including the botanical gardens and suits young and older couples with dogs- I would strongly recommend it.

Great for

  • Great parks and gardens
  • Public transport is available
  • Close proximity to city with great neighbourhood living
  • All kind of retail shops Big W, woolwoth , coles, safeway etc
  • Cafe & Restaurant, shops, public transport
  • Movies, Spa, Gym, Medical, schools
  • Nice Apartments.
  • Walking distance to major Melbourne attractions

Not great for

  • Quite busy
  • Traffic and parking

Malvern

"Malvern- A great suburb for a small family"

Malvern is a great suburb out of the CBD that allows suburban living but also the possibility of being close to the city. With slightly larger block sizes than further inner city suburbs like Windsor or Armadale, Malvern is spacious and has tree lined streets in abundance. It is well positioned for a young family with primary schools on offer as well as lots of park and recreation space at Central park.

Great for

  • Great family area
  • Good facilities on offer
  • 100's of Restaurants! Take your pick
  • Glenferrie Road... LOTS of shopping

Not great for

  • Expensive
  • A little bit snobby.

Kenley Court

"A great street that is secure and well looked after"

Kenley Court runs off Albany road and is a well maintained and protected court. The street is very sounds and rarely has any traffic at all as no through traffic can come through. The street has seen many renovations over the past years meaning that whilst the street has increased in value, it has been noisy and filled with construction workers on and off for nearly 6 years. It is a great street for safety, where you can run free and is well protected by security.

Great for

  • Quiet
  • No Through Traffic
  • Clean

Not great for

  • Construction noise
  • People keep to themselves

Toorak

"Toorak- a nice family suburb that is well established."

Toorak is a great living option for those that are either raising families or are established. It is a more expensive neighbourhood but covered with open streets that are well presented with nicely lined trees, it is also a good living area for proximity to good parks and schools, with Parks inclding Como Park and the Botanical gardens only a stone throw away. It is well positioned to be close to High street for great coffees and lifestyle options, and is well served further down with Toorak Village, an old and quaint shopping area with high end boutiques and elite spending options with cigar stores and high end clothing. This also has great cafes including Romeo's and Manhattan. All in all, strongly recommend due to great position, however on the more expensive side.

Great for

  • Great Cafes
  • Clean
  • Schools
  • Life
  • Soul

Not great for

  • Pretentious
  • High cost of living
  • Requires deep pockets

Hi Todds just noticed in your review for Toorak that under neighbourly spirit you gave a rating 2/5 and stated one of the cons is the pretentiousness- in terms of the estates or people. Any reason? I'm, sure there are some decent people within a well established suburb. I've been through Toorak Village once for a bite to eat. To my suprise it- the facilities and people- are no different to any other suburb that I've been through.

Hey Kevfev. I have just found in living there that both the estates and the people can seem a little standoffish. I have noted in my street and many around that some of the houses are done over the top and have exceptionally high fencing which inhibits any form of neighbourley communication. With in my street, I was also told not to park on my neighbours 'side' of the road when there were lots of cars, even though through his renovations construction workers parked right throughout the street with no complaints. There are plenty of lovely people in toorak, but I have noticed this being a common theme.

Richmond

"Richmond- A great hub to connect to anywhere in Melbourne"

Richmond borders the CBD and provides a great living option for people wanting to be amongst the action.
With traditional 2 BDR houses around the area, it is known for its Pub scene and abundance of cafes, restaurants and other drinking options.
Whilst a little grungy in some areas it is a fantastic place to live if you want to be a part of a busy and vibrant scene.

  • Parking can be hard to find
