Nice, safe, quiet suburb within easy commute to Bondi Beach?

Me and my boyfriend are moving to Sydney next month as he has a job on Bondi Beach. We don't really want to live there as it is so busy and expensive. Is there somewhere nearby anyone can recommend? We will be renting to start with so need somewhere affordable and with good public transport as we are hoping to not have to buy a car to start with too.....

We are a young couple but neither of us are into clubbing, drinking etc. We would prefer somewhere safe, clean and green.

I hope i'm not asking too much!

Thank you in advance.

Not many places that are affordable within close commuting distance to Bondi Beach. You may need to extend out as far south as Malabar or Botany to be within reasonable commuting distance, and meet your budget. Even those suburbs may be challenging in terms of price, and the bus connection isn't great either

There are some good suburbs close by, such as Rosebay, Double bay, Vaucluse...however they are expensive , but safe, green and clean. All eastern suburbs will be expensive....what will change is how busy each suburb will be.
Maybe you could try Edgecliff ? They have trains to bondi and to the city.....not as busy as Bondi. And they have nice parks around such as Rushcetters bay. Regarding public transport, check 131500.com.au .You write the adress of the place you would like to inspect and write the place you work at...it will tell you how to get their...and which buses or trains will take you there...so you can decide if its close enough to work or not..
