Whats happening with the crime rate in caboolture?

i have lived in caboolture now for 15 years now and i have never seen as much chroming, thieving, violence, house break in's and domestics, and juveniles ruling the neighbourhoods .
Where are the police in all this.???? are we lacking in funds or police in this community?
I understand that the caboolture police have other matters to attend to but this is becoming out of controll and i feel if we don't some how try and nip it in the butt now it is only going to get worse.
To make it alot easy the police should join forces with a program called city safe where they can protroll the streets to make the police jobs alot easy or maybe a curfew should be put in place for any child under the age of 18 out on the streets after 7pm with out legit reason get comunity service and give back to the community.
I myself being a responable parent deciding to take my 5 year old child out to centenary lakes one afternoon to feed the ducks to see a 17 year old walking around freely chroming from a old coke bottel filled with paint.I had found that hard in having to try to explaine and try to come up with some story to my daughter in what this lady was doing?...
it is disgraceful.
Also along Morayfield road there are abandond trashed houses that have been vandalised and destroyed and what is being done about it. its a shame to see once a nice Shire slowly being taken over and destroyed by kids and young adults that have no respect or ethical moral attitudes for the respect for others belongings or in other people in General.
there are people that im shure that are with me on this factor. i cant be the only one out hear that see all this...
there is a problem out there that needs to be fixed as fines and a slap on the hands are not working any more.

I have lived in Caboolture for 6 years and do not live near Morayfield Road where the low socio's are. I have never had any trouble or seen any chroming or similar and have found it rather quiet, which is why I moved out here from the city where I had all of the above and more. Caboolture is a very large area with all types (including the very affluent) and I get a little tired of the focus always on low life trouble makers who congregate in small pockets. Sure it is not a homogeneous suburb where everyone exists for 9 to 5 office work but Caboolture is a bit more interesting than that.

Great attitude OMackie! I'm a new Business Owner yet to open our 24hr Fitness Centre in the new Central Lakes Shopping Centre (opposite the Hospital), we researched the area for months before deciding on opening there, I agree there are always going to be some pockets in areas right across the country that suffer from what Truth Teller states above, we are really looking forward to offering the Caboolture people an alternative when it comes to Fitness, the NON homogeneous feel about Caboolture was what attracted us, 4,500 people a year move thee so it has something going for that's for sure...A lot of new estates being built heading north to elimbah etc..... We are excited and can't wait to open later in the year

Moved to the ghetto of Morayfield/Caboolture in 1985, I finally got free of that place in 1997. The formula is pretty basic really, scum breads scum. Kids i went to school with are pretty much all drunks and pot heads, now they have kids which are the same. Do yourself a favour and keep clear of the place, it is the Compton of Northside Brisbane. I have hundred's of stories of scum activities in my old hood. Parents dont care about the kids, teachers are nasty to the kids at school because lets face it most of the kids are future criminals in waiting, kids grow up with no hope, no guidance and do the same as their parents, siblings. Any decent kid I know who grew up there just wanted to get the hell away from the place.

Parents do care about their kids, all teachers are not nasty to the kids in school and most kids are NOT future criminals in waiting. There are current programs out there that help guide those that are not as fortunate as others along the right path. Who are we really to judge those that you call 'scum'? They are from unfortunate backgrounds and find it hard in society to excel because they are referred to as 'scum'. You are labelling kids before they even have a chance to prove themselves. It is this labelling that usually forces kids into deliquency and to repeat the patterns for their parents.
With guidance, children are able to take different paths. Targetting children from unfortunate backgrounds at early ages would enable use to help this problem. Moffits Adolescent Limited and Life Course Persistent Offenders Theory shows us that even when kids come from unfortunate backgrounds, they commit only during their adolescent years and 97% grow out of their crime committing ways as soon as their adolescent years are over. You have to realise that to stop them committing these crimes in the first place they need guidance. Obviously with negative attitudes they are not recieving this guidance.

so do you like in Caboolture Bree? You sound like you would like to help these kids. That's a great idea! I'm sure they're all willing and eager for your assistance, except when they're either drunk, taking an E, having a few cones, sniffing glue, having teenage pregnancies. It was scum in 70s, scum in the 80s and 90s when i was there.. Checked back in 2010 and I was shocked !!!! still scum.

Do you know the motto was in the entire district?
"Come to boolture, have no future". Hahahaha, i bet it's still the same and it's true.
Fact - best friend ended up getting hooked on cocaine and had a kid to a hooker.
Fact - 3 members from my local basketball team all got 15 years jail for several armed hold ups at petrol stations in 1999.
Fact - neighbour was murderd execution style over drugs in John St Caboolture.
Fact - a gun was brought to my high school in 1995 and aimed at the head master, the kid pulled the trigger and it went click', it wasn't loaded.

I don't know which Caboolture you're referring to Bree, but I don't think you have visited the local schools lately, the same bottom rung teachers are still there! The same teachers who uplift these kids with words like "you'll never amount to anything like your brother, you're a dumb ****"

And these stand up parents that 'care' about their kids, often frequent the local shopping centre to buy their slab of beers and ciggies.

A friend is now a policman on the beat in Caboolture now, the stories he tells me assures me the place has got much worse. I invite you to spend 5 minutes near Caboolture train station after midnight on a Saturday night.

Steeko's childhood experiences sound horrendous but I think maybe they reflect more upon the circumstances of his upbringing within the low social economic classes and having parents that did not prioritise education. Reasonable parents keep aware of their offspring's school and would move them on elsewhere if they attended such an appalling drain hole of a school as Steeko describes. The area has some excellent private schools that can compete with any in Queensland, they service the many affluent acreage dwellers who never see the social despair referred to. Five minutes at any train terminus after midnight would scare the pants off anyone, who would be stupid enough to go there? Police deal mainly with the community's scum, and can chill the bone in whatever suburb they serve. I moved from Ashgrove where we were burgled twice, was kept awake continually by selfish neighbors and my children were offered drugs on the way to school. It is just unfortunate that scum is everywhere you just need to avoid them and their hives. Caboolture for me is acreage tranquility, nearby private schools for the kids, quiet, thoughtful neigbours, Sunshine Coast Beaches 25 minutes away and an easy commute to Brisbane. I have no need to go to Morayfield Shopping VIllage and if I need a shopping Mall I take the Mercedes to Maroochydore or North Lakes but I'm not a shopping mall person. I know the pockets where the scum are and only the dumb would drive through let alone bring children up there. I must go now, I have to sweep the tennis court, check the pool's solar heating before collecting my weekly veggies from the farm gate, yes it certainly is a horrorshow living in Caboolture.

Steeko and Vich I think that it is appalling that you refer to people as "scum". It doesn't matter where one grows up or what you are subjected to there is always a way out. and Vich having things like a tennis court or a mercedes benz doesn't make you any better than the "scum and their hives" as you put it.

Steeko, I grew up here too and it wasn't too bad back then but these days I would have to agree. I moved away after I finished school and am back, reluctantly, with my children 10 years later. I have first hand experience in many of these schools and I would hate to be a permanent teacher in one of Caboolture/Morayfield's public schools. A lot of these teachers need a medal for what they endure each day, don't know how they wake up each morning and want to go to work. I live on one of these acerage properties too VicH but that doesn't protect you from the scumbags of the area. We have break-ins out here. Just a few months ago an elderly neighbour had her house broken into in the middle of the night while she slept! I don't think there is a house in my street that hasn't been broken into over the years. So VicH you can't avoid it! Every place has their share of crime and low socio economic families but caboolture has a very high concentration of them! MORE than normal!

when i roll through my old hood, i play that song by NWA that says "if you're ever in Compton, you better bring a gun".. feels fitting as I see the streets filled with teenage mums and their unemployed boyfriends looking at my ride feeling like i'm gonna get car jacked. I used to live in the "weigh town" area near Morayfield High School, nowadays we just call that area "the field". Yeah the teachers have it tough because the kids dont want to learn. What is sad is that the kids who do want to learn are faced with teachers that dont engage in the students. I remember getting into fist fights several times in grade 11 because I was trying to listen to the teacher teach the class and contested some nasty students. The schools there are not a good place to excel academically. Burpengary is better i've found over the years.

Ok, Steeko? I'm a 21 year old, who has lived in the worst places to live in at Caboolture. Not only do you not realise what you're talking about, have you actually looked at ANY of the reasoning behind it all??? Sure, there are plenty of kids out in Caboolture who do some pretty bad stuff, but most of it is because of stuff that is happening at home, or because its there. So what if your high school bred armed robbers, a gun man and several drug addicts? Every high school has a story like that! I lived in the Caboolture area for 17 years, and while I am a young mum, it wasnt because of the area, but the CIRCUMSTANCES. So, don't blame the place you live for the people in it, most of these people were like that well before they moved to caboolture, and the MINORITY give it a bad name, not the MAJORITY. You can walk to the shops at most times of day, and see mothers with their children, elderly couples, university students, and normal everyday people. Yes, sometimes you see some less than savoury people around, but you see that no matter where you go. Go to Bribie, you will see the same thing, Deception Bay. All areas in the world have a good side and a bad side. So look beyond the surface before judging.

changed me for sure. never been the same in public (14 years later). can't help it. i'm always a bit shiftee and am on high alert when i catch a train or go somewhere like morayfield shops. (but I'm prepared this time too! he he).

was always lookin out for this type of thing going to High School in Morayfield. And i wasnt even one of the kids that got picked on.

yep.

also i can also vouch for fella bringin a 22 to school and threating the principal. was actually a school mate until i realised he had issues.

got wrestled to the ground by all the manual arts teachers and then locked him up in the manual arts block until the cops came.

poor fella had issues.

also girls did a group suicide in a younger grade, but one of them pulled out and the other went through with it.

not nice stuff to have happen

not winging i guess. growing up going to Morayfield State High school gave me character! but no, I personally wouldnt live near there, and purposely moved out of "the hood"

Hi all,

I'm doing research about the crime rates in Caboolture for my honours at the moment and hopefully will be able to get some changes approved at the end of it all! Your opinions are a good way to compare perceptions of crime with actual crime rates and the lived experience with media perceptions and police reports - which rarely align. So, if you have a chance help me out -

1. Do you think that the presence of a public housing estate (in King Street) contributes to the public displays of deviance? (they are often occupied by low socio's and at risk youths)

2. Do you feel safe living or visiting there? - if not, explain why and what bothers you most about the area

3. Is there any sense of community? (eg: community activities/events, neighbourhood friendships and assistance)

4. Would you feel comfortable attending a community event in Caboolture?

5. Which areas do you think have the most problems?

Thanks!

I have been working in Caboolture for the last 9 years as a vocational and professional development trainer. I work with a Job network provider and catch the train every day from Brisbane.

I have in excess of 10,000 (yep) students pass through my training courses, so I have pretty much met most of the people receiving centrelink payment.
Let me assure anyone thinking of moving to Caboolture. The people up here are the very best I have met anywhere in Australia. They are genuine and hard working. I have never had a problem with any one at any place in Caboolture. It’s a safe and nice place and I have great respect for all the people up here. That’s been my experience – for what it’s worth.

I think the Questioner has a valid point although I also see the value in a positive attitude.
The reality is, though, small time crime is a problem in caboulture and this is exactly why the student above is researching crime rates in caboulture.
the Police are screaming out for help and the Redcliffe and Caboulture stations are the busiest around.
Having said that, i like caboulture and would feel as safe there as anywhere. the general area surrounding caboulture is well known to have a large proportion of lower socio-economic groups but it has done for a long time and really the increasing crime rate, in my view, is just a product of an increasing population. Lets not go caboulture bashing because the vast majority of people there are not criminals and I don't see that 17 year old girl Chroming in the park represents crime, I just think it is sad that she hates her life so much.

steeko, you are no doubt right on a lot of points but she is just as right. Scum doesn't necessarily breed scum but some of the kids are so damaged that they don't have the capacity to get above it....when you are older you may realise the tragedy of this.
Consider yourself fortunate enough to be above it.
From her intelligent comment, it is obvious that she has found the strength to rise above it too. Leave the personal attacks out of it.
Your rumour about the government making the media be silent about it is not correct at all and there has actually been TV specials devoted to it.
You only hear about a fraction of the rape, murder, and all sorts of other crimes that go on all over the country. caboulture is known for what it is and that is why we are talking about it here.
Her point, obviously, is that the problem goes deeper than a bad bunch of kids who won't listen at school and go around bashing and raping people.
I totally agree with her that the problem is rooted deep in horrible abuse, bad parenting or a total lack of it.

I know they don't show petty crime in caboulture every night on the news but thats because, after a while, no one would watch it. the same reason you don't hear about the continuous crime in places like Yagoona on the sydney news every night. the news is much more likely to report a crime in a suburb where it usually doesn't happen. This is what makes it news.

Lol @ above post. Thief in disguise! Reminds me of the time my sisters and I dressed an 8yo New Guinea boy up in full makeup, dress, and wig, then had 'her' door knocking in Deception Bay asking people where the bowls club is. Nobody suspected anything unusual, and pointed 'her' in the right direction, whilst we were cacking ourself across the street. Coincidently, that boy grew up, had a child, and evaded police with a warrant for his arrest by jumping in the swollen Caboolture River. He's body later found down river.

I read much of these posts, as my partner and I want to get out of the South Burnett, to live in possibly Upper Caboolture. We have four little children. I am trying to explain to my partner car, and contents insurance premiums would be much higher in the area, and we'd be throwing ourselves from the frypan into the fire. We have virtually zero crime rate where we are, but the people are drama queens, and bitchy back stabbers, with nothing better to do than to delve in other's business. The joys of country life! We live 2.5hrs drive away from Morayfield.

Reading all this assures me this is not the area I want my children to grow up in. All the areas such as Deception Bay, Burpengary, Narangba, etc, etc, have this element not worthy of calling safe communities. If you're seen pulling an expensive vehicle into your driveway everyday, play loud thumping music where you can hear the quality isn't cheap, play/practice live instruments that can be heard from passers-by, place anything in the yard that all looks like you have money, you are inviting coveting theives to case your place, and take what they everything they have capacity to carry. In our instance, everything we have has taken years on a low income to accumulate, so our children have a future. We would stand to lose it all if it wasn't insured! Even then, we would suffer huge depreciation losses. Currently, our possessions are not insured, nor engraved, I must get onto that, I have an engraver!

So Caboolture and districts is unattractive, and Queensland has little funding in the coffers to improve public safety. They assess police numbers by capacity to cover an area, which a lot of the time is inadequate coverage. Went through this after lodging complaint ovee an incident in the country over inadequate police presence with Anna Blighs office (then.) That sparked a big investigation, with senior police called to meetings in Gympie to solve an obvious problem. Unfortunately, Caboolture Police have been crying out for more funding and Police numbers, only to have their concerns fall on deaf ears. It's been a long standing problem for as long as I can remember.

Hope this was a good read from someone that grew up in Deception Bay, is familiar with all these areas, but not been too involved with any of them for 16yrs at least. We still visit during the day when we need something that way. Opinions matter.

I didn't know Glenwood drive hosted it's own drag way burnout rally show , I thought that was only allowed archerfield speed way. I have also been nearly run down by some local quad bike twits that use the footpath as an m1.

Hi my name is outlander I have lived in cab for 28 years I have worked in and around the area as a trade I have watched this grand town turn into a small city but before I and my family knew the local police by name in the last 10 years I have seen the older police officers retired and the young man and woman take over change is good but I personally have seen people in my town on more than 1 time selling drugs right outside the police station. This however is not the fault of our police force. But it gives you a filling of insecurity. I have had the opportunity to speak to one of our local officers today and that officer has to deal with over 10 jobs wen he or she in on duty every day. Con on CABOOLTURE. We are better then that. Please. Back up. Our. POLICE.. PARAMEDICS .. FIREFIGHTERS. PLEASE. REMEMBER. THAY RUN IN WEN WE RUN OUT. GOOD BLESS AND. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

Moved to Caboolture a little over a year ago and have yet to encounter the dystopian wasteland that many of you people are describing. (Full disclosure, I moved here from the US, so I may have a different barometer when it comes to what I consider to be a safe and/or relatively low crime area).

I like it here. As a general rule, it is quiet and peaceful. Yes, there will be exceptions, but there are exceptions to every rule. I'll also add that I don't feel any kind of fear walking around here whether night or day and the only people who have actually accosted me are the charity workers at Cole's plaza.

The good news for all of the scared people is that the area is absolutely ripe for gentrification. Give it a few more years and you will start seeing the "scum," as many of you have so eloquently referred to them, unable to afford rent in the area (a nearby house is asking more for rent than equivalent homes much closer to the CBD).

At the end of the day, YOU are the one who is responsible for what happens in your street, neighbourhood, community, city, etc. Quit having a whinge about the "scum" or the police not doing anything or about what that kid at the skatepark is wearing! Go and meet your neighbour, say hello to the person behind you in line at the grocery store, give a smile and nod to the skinny guy wearing a singlet with tattoos on his face, ask that kid with the skateboard and attitude (yeah, I had a teenager too) if they could lend you a hand; you'll be surprised by the results and a lot less afraid of your life.
