When I get the bus, to or from home, there are always overseas students getting on or off the bus along the route home and I think quite a number of overseas students - male ans female - live in private accommodation in the area of Malvern, Fullarton and Highgate, while studying in Adelaide. It is very close to the city and evenusing the bus a student can be in the city in 15 to 2o minutes after getting on the bus. There are not a lot of flats in the area - often the students rent a room with a family willing to set aside a room for a student, My elderly female neighbour (a widow) approached a local University and found out what she needed to do to be acceptable as a willing host to an overseas student. She was quickly matched up with a student and she rented out a furnished room to a female student and also provided meals as part of the arrangement. Living alone in a private home unit in the area might be too expensive for some overseas students. Living with an approved family might allow the student more support and not be too expensive. Being away from family can be very lonely and that could be a negative for an overseas student living far away from their own family.
