Can QLD public secondary schools force students to shave?

We recently moved to Brisbane from SYD. My elder son in Yr 8 joined Mansfield State High. Today I received a text from the school asking for my sons faint moustache to be shaved. Has any other parents received similar requests from Mansfield SHS / a QLD public school?
