If you can actually find any place to rent, keep in mind that it is noisy all the time, so what ever you are looking at, think about the sound factor. My son found and rented a top floor apartment (only a studio) at Nob Hill, and was thrilled until weeks later he was woken up time after time by motorcycles in the middle of the night and garbage pick up in the wee hours of the morning. There's a downside to living in the middle of everything.

I would just assume that you are going to pay at least $3000+ a month and that dosn't guarantee a fancy place, at best it's probably just an average place.

What a 2 bedroom rental in Downtown, San Francisco could cost you per month depends a lot on the building and the exact location. A two-bedroom in an old rundown looking building near the Tenderloin could cost you $1500 while a fancy apartment in one of those luxury highrises could go for $3000.
