Hi LynnO...this is not an easy question to answer as it depends on your requirements and your lifestyle. However Queanbeyan is a very diverse town and generally the rental and purchase price of homes is cheaper than that of Canberra. There is free parking in the CBD and at all supermarkets. There is public transport ( buses ) that travel from Queanbeyan to Canberra CBD, Woden , Tuggeranong all around 20 minutes away. The train also travels through Queanbeyan to Sydney. Queanbeyan has all amenities, Dr surgeries, a great hospital, three major super markets as well as independent butchers and bakeries, chemists, lovely cafes and restaurants and many fast food takeaway outlets, there is also a large KMart, Best and Less, several low cost retail stores and lots of specialist stores. When looking for cost of living look for properties that have great sustainability features, so adequate heating, adequate insulation, sunny aspect to reduce heating costs, a veranda that provide shade in summer to reduce cooling costs. Something that is close (walking distance ) to amenities to save on petrol. It really does have country living with city benefits. I hope you enjoy living here.
