But don’t be deceived. Not extremely safe like the suburbs of the north west but decent compared to neighboring counterparts in the south west.

Shopping and education options generally limited, but water views are decent. Tucked away in Sydney’s south, a small suburb which has opportunity for family residence, but aside from that, really quite lackadaisical.

It intersects with Princes Highway, so not really much pleasant to state about this drive. There is a large waste management area located in conveniently near residents and the tennis courts for hire. Don’t think we need to utilise racquets to swat fleas, but overall, this road, from a driver’s perspective allows for easy travel.

The main road runs through the what I would venture to call ‘CBD’, which differs from that of Hurstville. Car traffic on this main road is particularly undesirable, although pedestrian traffic is considerably low. Schools nearby are not excellent, aside from perhaps Kogarah, which you are better off residing in as it has generally a more community feel on certain parts of Montgomery and Railway Pde. In Rockdale" there is a shopping plaza, but it’s in the south-eastern pocket, and generally not very accessible (the only safe means to get there is perhaps car or bus; walking on Princes Highway is a tad bit far fetched). The driveway McDonald’s certainly needs to be more accessible by walk and all retail shops like Bunnings too. Everything feels... isolated in Rockdale. The side of Rockdale closer to Kogarah is completely instinct to that of the Strand even though you are essentially traversing not a great distance. As for restaurants, I believe you are sorted to some degree, but very little variety of cuisine.

Being part of the Ku-ring-gai council, this is a particularly safe suburb located conveniently relative to the hotspots of the North Shore. It is in close propinquity of Macquarie Park, a bustling region of the North Shore. Top notch schools are not far away and while restaurants and shopping options are not varied, it is perfect for people wishing to get outside of the hustle of the Sydney CBD and embrace prime suburban life in Greater Sydney

I don't know why liveability indices wish to disparage it so much - possibly some bad experience, because living here is top notch for a family seeking decent costs in the inner west, it's greater than Summer Hill with a more family oriented feel. There are excellent schools in the vicinity, which is to be expected because inner west is the cutting edge of top notch private schools. Transport links are excellent, with frequent busses, and a great range of shops in neighbouring suburbs such as Burwood, Strathfield and Ashfield.

Aside from a few amenities in the suburb itself and neighbouring suburbs more so, there isn't much to get excited about in this pocket of south-west Sydney. Transport is not highly convenient as well accessibility of shops, dining, health services, etc. Health is integral, so I wouldn't state that this suburb is undervalued. Safety relative to some neighbouring suburbs of neighbouring suburbs is to be prided, but I believe first and foremost, comes health so a hospital ought to be implemented for the benefit of this family oriented suburb. Additionally, we could do with a greater range of amenities perhaps in suburbs up north. Education sector not excellent, there are some decent local schools, but aside from that, scarce.

Beng in propinquity to Macquarie Park, Centre, University as well as the bustling likes of Epping implies noise pollution, traffic congestion and inconvenience for residents in the sole aspect of environment. Schools are relatively sound, with a great range in the North Shore, and transport is easily accessible for schools in the inner west. Leafy green suburb that is recommended investiture into for families with children; this suburb could face growth soon as the population moves out further north to access numerous more amenities.

Education not excellent, transport options aren't of great deal, as not all train services from Central go through to Engadine. There is an aquatic and leisure centre and it is in close proximity to beaches, but there are very scarce dining, shopping and transport options. Greater variety would be beneficial, especially in education and shopping sectors, because Engadine is a suburb dominated by families with children rather than professionals.

The only downside is the lack of transport options, which chiefly depends on bus or ferry, the latter of which is generally not particularly reliable. However, you do have an abundance of amenities in nearby suburbs such as Drummoyne and Five Dock, with a greater scope of dining, shopping and employment options. Like all suburbs in the Canada Bay LGA, this suburb is very safe indeed, and in spite of being practically the smallest suburb in Greater Sydney, there is a mounting surge of possibilities to explore. The education sector here is heavily underrepresented, because there are an array of decent public schools in the local region, and a significant chunk in the inner west in suburbs such as Burwood, Strathfield and Summer Hill. These suburbs, in spite of having some top notch education facilities, are not comparable to Wareemba, as they lack a number of the intricacies emerging in the aforementioned traits.

Near the border of South Hurstville and Allawah, this street is in walking distance of the Hurstville CBD in tandem with being a tranquil, peaceful environment equipped with more than decent transport options. There is an abundance of amenities in nearby Hurstville, which I hardly need to elucidate, as well as the presence of top notch schools just a few streets down such as St Raphael's Catholic Primary School and St George Christian School. Green space will not be as spectacular as the North Shore, but I can affirm there is a significant portion of parks in close propinquity compared to other suburban areas in Southern Sydney namely Meade Park, Empress Reserve and Maanshan Friendship Park This hence makes it ideal for family living at a low cost. As for transport, Hurstville Station is just 800m away, so by embarking on an express train, you can get to the Sydney CBD in 25 minutes.

This is a decent suburb, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Greenacre and the notorious south west but mind you, this suburb isn't highly desirable, with amenities nearby, but inadequate educational facilities in the suburb itself. I suppose that you could access top notch private schools in nearby Strathfield and Burwood, but that would induce a great imbalance in house prices between the northern and southern parts of this suburb. Hence, I would recommend the council implementing a few quality local schools here perhaps pinpoint in the middle. Transport is not the greatest thing this suburb is renowned; there are several busses running through, but it would be convenient for the council to dedicate a train station on the Inner West line as a termination point rather than an interchange stop or necessary passing stop for access to the West.

Serviced by one train station, but other than an influx of industry, it's really nothing more. Shopping amenities available in Auburn and Granville, but these experience frequent traffic congestion and what not, not very good suburb in their own right. Perhaps the only decent surrounding environ would have to be Homebush West or Silverwater, the former of which you can readily access shopping. Not very good suburb in its own right, as train station takes about a considerable fraction of land.

Telecommunications is an underperforming factor and transport options are limited; you're better off in nearby Blakehurst or South Hurstville. The beach is not supreme and if it were, this place would no longer be a hidden gem for leisure lovers, because there would be noise pollution and traffic congestion as people head to their ultimate beachside destination just from the CBD at Hurstville. Being on the "other" side of Princes Hwy, I tell you, is undesirable and the region itself has low walkability.

Opt for the South Hurstville side and you shall get more access to amenities in nearby Hurstville, which is essentially the CBD of South Sydney, and in being so, would have to be equipped with a Westfield, countless shopping options, a KFC, a train super station, a town square and lots of coaching centres to bore your child's uneventful mind. Blakehurst has a very nice Yum Cha located centrally on Princes Hwy, which provides efficient access to Carss Park which is a hotspot for leisure and beach (with less crowd, recommended to attend to on weekdays). Try to steer clear of a house situated on Princes Hwy, even if it is a profoundly nice waterfront villa because you are taking up the risk of noise pollution and go figure. You won't be left with many options. Anyway, just opt for South Hurstville, it's a better alternative which has just about as ready access to the aforementioned amenities apart from the very nice Yum Cha, which just happens to be in central Blakehurst. Then again, in Hurstville, you have the Sunny Seafood hence catering for all your dietary needs.

Once again, this suburb is located near the hearts of the St George area - Kogarah and Hurstville, but Carlton in itself is fighting back against the consumer rich duopoly with the convenience of a gym, a small stretch of restaurants of Railway Pde and abundance of parks and schools. Hurstville has slightly fallen behind its top counterpart, Kogarah, due to overcrowding and rapid gentrification, resulting in traffic congestion, which in itself, is non beneficial for the suburb. Kogarah is highly convenient equipped with a large scale hospital to parry back at Hurstville, and Rockdale is left flailing unfortunately in its gentrified almost urban landscape, with overly busy roads running through near the train station. Hence, Kogarah dominates. But Carlton snaps back, because it is a huge suburb, and it is nice to see it even extending into the title of Allawah, which is gradually dwindling. Overall, this suburb has virtually all you need at a non exorbitant price. In close propinquity to Beverley Park, which is idyllic for golf and all your leisure activities.

The shopping strip leading up to the train station has a very relaxed atmosphere and village feel to it. The local IGA is highly convenient for shopping options, but even if that's inadequate for your liking, there are frequent trains to Hurstville (which sometimes even skip Penshurst), and I'm aware of busses to Roselands. If you live on the side closer to west Penshurst or Peakhurst, I'm sure there are frequent busses, which head towards the train station, so travel for access to amenities is not a quandary. (You could go to Beverly Hills for a greater range of dining options, and that, I can be sure that there are numerous busses there).
I will state this for once: Mortdale is underpriced for the general population demographic. Yes, you may repudiate me when it comes to families with children, as the education sector seems to be poorly underrepresented. But no, I would retaliate that there are several good local schools in the vicinity. They won't be top notch, because well, private schools are primarily distributed in the inner west, east and north shore, but honestly, travelling to schools in these areas from Mortdale is easy.
As for safety, I feel that this is absolute heaven relative to some places further west. Even down east, where people find it more desirable to reside (for which I would quite agree), there are a greater quantity of what I would class dodgy places. All in all, Mortdale won't be your general notion of the North Shore with an array of leafy environs, but it will suit many families with children, blue collar workers and professionals, as it is equipped with all the necessary needs in the suburb itself and amenities nearby are accessible in Penshurst, Hurstville, Oatley, Peakhurst and Riverwood.

You're better off going down south to places such as Ryde, Chatswood, Strathfield, etc. This suburb is relatively well serviced by public transport, has leafy environs which tend to go hand in hand with peace and safety, yet very scarce dining options and shopping facilities. The former is understandable, as this suburb is clearly not intended to suit a community like Marrickville or Newtown, but please I implore the council to invest in a huge shopping complex perhaps just south of the suburb, because nearby shopping precincts literally stretch as far as Hornsby or Eastwood.

This suburb is virtually a gargantuan beast, seeming to definitively separate the disparate universes of Castle Hill and the western North Shore. However, in spite of having so much space, the transport options are fairly limited, making it difficult to access quality shopping centres, eatery options and education facilities as few amenities are provided in the actual suburb itself. It is indeed intended for tranquil and calm leafy environs, but it would be all the more convenient if an abundance of amenities were implemented in the suburb's east.
