Summer is always a great time go. Summer brings tons of festivals (Odunde) concerts (4th of July) and you'll get tons of discounts and specials on cafes, restaurants and shows. The museum district is lively and you'll more than likely find an interesting exhibit at one of the many museums in the city. Whether you're an intellectual looking to hear a lecture, a professional seeking a great event (the Urban League just sponsored an event here) you're more than likely to find it. Philly is a major city on the east coast. You'll find lots to do!

Winter with the snow. The sickos are inside of the house then because it's too cold for them outside.

I would say the spring and summer are the best times of the year in Philly. Most neighborhoods begin holding their annual festivities in the spring. And the summer brings concerts galore.

This city is alive at any time of the year, but the best two times are 1) around Christmas and 2)the fourth of july. I would say Christmas is a great time to see the city for its beautiful decorations. A lot of school choirs go caroling in the malls downtown and sometimes in the suburbs of Philadelphia as well (I should know, I did it when I was in highschool). There is a great spirit of kindness and unity that shows in the city and a lot of places offers lot of great opportunities to volunteer your time. Nearing Christmas, there are a lot of places that offer hot meals (did you know homeless shelters are closed on christmas?!) so it's a great time to help out. If you're looking to do some shopping, you get a lot of discounts and specials. There are also a lot of events that the city hosts. The next time would be the fourth of the July for the same reason as Christmas--festivities!!! Penn's landing has an amazing fireworks display and people gather downtown all over the city to watch them. (If you sit on the hill of the Philadelphia Art Museum, you get a great view but it's less crowded so it's great). If you don't want to get caught in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it's still a great time to be in the city. During the summer months, new stores open up and there are some shops that are only open in the summer. All the different cafes and places open their doors and lots of eateries and restaurants have great outdoor seating and atmosphere. Also during the summer are lots of activities and festivals.
