South Morang

"OK suburb."

Too busy and badly planned. Hopefully the train will improve the amenities. The countryside used to lovely around here till this pimple was superimposed onto it. For a suburb planned sympathetically with the land look at Doreen and Mernda. Both are far more attractive than South Morang

Great for

  • Train service, possible tram extension

Not great for

  • Needs to build more walking tracks
  • People keep to themselves

Craigieburn

"Sadly has gone downhill"

I used to love this suburb but now it's just gone so bad. Part of the problem is the crazy growth that had happened in the last five years. The community feel is all but gone and the place feels like everyone is tense and on tenterhooks. I have never been at the receiving end of violence or crime but in the last few months I have twice been screamed at, and been spat at, my car was keyed and just today and idiot tried to run me off the road. People used to call it Crazyburn in jest but now it's true.

Not great for

  • Very unsafe
  • Hoons and renters with loud music and car noise
  • Houses so close to each other
  • Dirty unclean shopping area with spit on the ground
  • Feeling of being unsafe
  • Waiting for the shopping centre! it is the only thing Craigieburn lack at this time otherwise its a great suburb to live in.

Doreen

"Doreen is a jewel of a suburb with a great feel and atmosphere."

Doreen has so many upsides. It abounds with natural beauty, the air is clean and the wildlife plentiful.
The breathtakingly beautiful Plenty Gorge runs through it and offers walking, bird watching and mountain biking. Doreen has a great and active community with many sporting groups including a cycling group that organises weekly rides along the offroad network that connects to the rest of Melbourne.
The rail and road network is good and getting better as is the shopping and eating out options.

Great for

  • Urban development with a distinct country feel
  • Great mix of young and old that are community spirited
  • The existing and planned infrastructure is terrific and eliminates the need to go too far
  • Lovely recreation areas
  • Good access to parks

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles
  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • LGBT+
  • Hipsters
  • Country Lovers
  • Trendy & Stylish
  • Beach Lovers
